Defense Department says that security in the private sector means security for the government.
The U.S. Department of Defense hosted a virtual meeting last week in which Mieke Eoyang, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, emphasized the importance of cooperation to really strengthen U.S. cybersecurity. The Defense Department can work on strengthening its cybersecurity alone, but there are many gaps when relying on the governmental sector alone.
The cyber policy secretary stated, “This is actually an area where we can really use industry’s help because we have tremendous capability inside the United States in terms of providing cybersecurity for large enterprises, and I would argue that some of the best talent is actually in the private sector.” She went on to say that by working together to cast a wider net, U.S. technological experts can come together to fill in those vital gaps between the enterprises.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the deputy assistant secretary as she promotes private sector cooperation in cybersecurity.
- For officials in Cyber Command as they seek allies in the private sector to meet their goal of improved security.
- For wisdom for leaders in the private sector to respond appropriately to the government’s invitation.
