Dr. Califf had served in the administration of President Obama.
On Friday, the White House announced that President Biden had selected Dr. Robert Califf to be the new commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Califf served in the leading role of the administration during the final 11 months of President Obama’s term in office. Currently, Dr. Califf is an advisor to Google on matters of health policy.
President Biden framed the importance of the role in light of the COVID-19 pandemic saying, “As the FDA considers many consequential decisions around vaccine approvals and more, it is mission-critical that we have a steady, independent hand to guide the FDA.” If the Senate moves to confirm Dr. Califf, he would be responsible for major issues such as the regulation of e-cigarettes and the COVID-19 vaccine.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That God would guide the Senate on how to vote on this appointment.
- For the president to seek the Lord’s wisdom as he nominates officials to serve in his administration.
