Synergy

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock… for the care of the church of God. – Act 20:28

Acts 20 contains Paul’s sermon to the elders of the church, exhorting them to pay careful attention to themselves and to their congregations. The elders were in charge of making sure that their people thrived.

A church body should be the safest place people can be. Just as you make sure your family thrives in the best way you can, church leaders are concerned for their members—and the members for each other. A church is a place of support, encouragement, and strength in hard times. More than likely, if you have been in a body of believers very long, you have benefited from the support a church family provides and you have had the opportunity to be a strength to others.

Like families, there may be occasional squabbles. Someone once said, “The ark may have been stinky at times, but it was the only boat afloat.” The church is like the ark, offering provision, spiritually, physically, and mentally, though it is not perfect. Thank God for your fellowship of believers and do not underestimate how important they are.

Synergy is when a group’s combined effect is greater than the sum of their separate parts. The church is powerful, not only in the way they help and support each other but in the spiritual power that exponentially increases when believers unite in worship and prayer. Pray for the church to be what God intends it to be, a light in a dark world. Pray for the church to grow stronger in the United States and make a difference to many.

Today’s Verse: Acts 20:28

19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
