In the News…

Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema told a group of her colleagues in the House of Representatives that she will not support a multi-trillion-dollar reconciliation package until Congress passes the $1 trillion infrastructure spending bill first. She remains a key Senator whose resistance to the reconciliation deal has stalled the legislation.

In a senate with a 50-50 split, she has the ability to prevent legislation from moving forward, now that her party is using a process known as reconciliation to muscle the bill through relying on their thin majorities. It allows the bill to be approved with only a simple majority vote, bypassing united opposition and the usual 60-vote threshold in the Senate.

She refrains from making public comments on her position or role.

Meanwhile, Senator Sinema is in Europe on a fund-raising trip as the Senate is out of session for a week. Although political campaigns and parties cannot raise money from foreign nationals, American citizens living abroad can and do regularly contribute.
