Richard Glick
Chairman, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
Richard Glick is a graduate of George Washington University and Georgetown Law School. He engaged in the private practice of law.
He served as a director of government affairs for PM Energy and was director of government affairs for Pacific Corp. He served as a senior policy advisor to U.S. Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson, and before that was legislative director and chief counsel to a U.S. Senator from Arkansas.
Glick was vice president of government affairs for Iberdrola’s renewable energy, electric and gas utility, and natural gas storage business in its Washington, D.C. office.
He served as general counsel on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He was nominated to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission by President Donald Trump, confirmed by the Senate, and assumed office in November 2017. In January 2021, President Biden named Glick as the Chairman. His term as a commissioner ends in June 2022.
He is married to Erin and they have one son.

A report released by the nonpolitical staff from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation showed that the biggest culprit of the power grid failures during a deep freeze in Texas last February that left millions of people in the dark for several days were failures at fossil fuel-fired power plants.
The federal government has wanted to mandate weatherizing so that such outages do not occur in the future. “I guarantee you that this time, FERC will not let these recommendations be ignored or watered down,” the FERC Chairman Richard Glick said. He added that power generation from natural gas, coal, wind turbines, and nuclear units should all be winterized.
The staff report is considered preliminary, and a final version is set to be issued sometime during the winter.
