Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find? – Proverbs 20:6
The old fairytale with an evil queen talking to her mirror was a bit more predictive than you may have imagined! Today you may stand in front of your bathroom smart mirror having access to the entire internet on the glass while you are virtually trying out hairstyles and fashions with amazing apps. Smart mirrors are here to stay but unlike the old fairytale, the truth is not revealed in it. It will simply show you and tell you what you want to see or hear.
Jesus, in speaking to the religious rulers of His day, told a story of two people seeing themselves in two very different reflections. “The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector, I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get” (Luke 18:11-12).
The second man, a socially reviled tax collector, approached God differently saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” (Luke 18:13). Jesus commented on their different views of themselves, “I tell you this man [tax collector] went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 18:14).
Pray for the governing officials guiding the United States in these complicated days, and for the multitude of citizens wondering what will happen next. Ask that all would humble themselves before our gracious God who is willing to bless those who acknowledge Him for who He is.

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
