The drones may pose a national security threat.
Federal law enforcement agencies are purchasing surveillance drones from a Chinese company. In doing so, experts are concerned the U.S. government is exposing itself to spying by malicious foreign actors.
The U.S. Secret Service is the latest to purchase the drones, acquiring 8 of them. The manufacturer dominates the commercial drone market in the U.S. and elsewhere. The purchase occurred three days after the Defense Department released a statement saying that products from Da Jiang Innovations (DJI) “post potential threats to national security.” The FBI bought 19 of the DJI drones a few days earlier.
Efforts to purge military and law enforcement agencies of potentially compromised Chinese technology have stalled amid bureaucratic red tape. The manufacturing company insists all concerns are unfounded and based on misunderstanding or misrepresentations of its technology.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That the U.S. will be able to employ the technology necessary to overcome any cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the Chinese drones.
- For American manufacturers to catch up with other countries in the production of technology to protect the nation’s security.
