He has previously cautioned about court-packing.
Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer recently cautioned against remaking the nation’s highest court. He stated, ”what goes around comes around,” if one party does it then the other will, too. The Supreme Court currently has a 6-3 conservative majority, leading some in Congress to call for its expansion.
President Biden signed an executive order in April that established a commission to study whether or not to add seats to the Supreme Court, an idea he himself has remained neutral on.
Justice Breyer’s comments were made in an interview to promote his new book, “The Authority of the Court and the Peril of Politics.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the members of the commission studying remaking or expanding the U.S. Supreme Court.
- For Justice Breyer, age 82, who has experienced pressure to resign.
- For all the justices of the Supreme Court as they choose the cases to hear this fall.
