Memo to officials in Kabul also orders the destruction of on-site American flags
An internal memo was sent out to U.S. embassy staff in Kabul to begin using their incinerators and burn bins to destroy “sensitive material” and “embassy or agency logos, American flags, or items which could be misused in propaganda efforts.” The State Department will also be removing a number of their diplomats from the embassy and have requested volunteers with “High Threat, High Risk” experience to be available 24/7.
Though these instructions are due to the risk of Kabul falling to the Taliban, the State Department says this type of removal process is to be expected. “Drawdowns at our diplomatic posts around the world follow a standard operating procedure designed to minimize our footprint across various categories, including staffing, equipment, and supplies,” a State Department official explained.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That the State Department would succeed in keeping U.S. diplomats and other Americans safe as evacuations are made from Afghanistan.
- For the U.S. military personnel being redeployed to that nation.
- For the president and his administration as they consider next steps.
