Confident Waiting

But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation, my God will hear me. – Micah 7:7

The story is told of some famous trapeze artists who revealed the special relationship between the flyer and the catcher on the trapeze. They follow some very important rules, such as, “the flyer is the one who lets go, and the catcher is the one who catches.” As the flyer swings on the trapeze high above the crowd, the moment comes when he must let go. He flings his body out into mid-air. His job is to keep flying and wait for the strong hands of the catcher to take hold of him at just the right moment. The flyer must never try to catch the catcher. The flyer’s job is to wait in absolute trust. The catcher will catch him, but he must wait.

Romans 8:24 was paraphrased in Eugene Peterson’s The Message, as follows, “Waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting.”

Just as the flyer has to have confidence in the catcher, God wants you to wait on Him with complete confidence, in everything – your todays and your tomorrows. Can you let go of the trapeze bar of anxiety and depression and fling yourself toward Him waiting for His strong hand to grasp hold of you? He has promised to always catch you, just at the right time.

As He watches over you, He longs to have all people trust Him. Pray for your fellow citizens to look to the only One who is strong enough to save them.

Today’s Verse: Micah 7:7

But as for me, I will look to the Lord;
    I will wait for the God of my salvation;
    my God will hear me.

5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
    the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
    What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
    I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

14 The Lord is my strength and my song;
    he has become my salvation.
15 Glad songs of salvation
    are in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
16     the right hand of the Lord exalts,
    the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!”

24 This is the day that the Lord has made;
    let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save us, we pray, O Lord!
    O Lord, we pray, give us success!
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
    We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is God,
    and he has made his light to shine upon us.
Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,
    up to the horns of the altar!
28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
    you are my God; I will extol you.
29 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    for his steadfast love endures forever!
