Today, President Joe Biden will welcome German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the White House. Their working visit will focus on discussions surrounding bilateral economic relations, regional security in Europe, foreign policy issues around the globe, instability in Iran and Afghanistan, and COVID-19 response and relief. In addition, the president hopes to discuss the growing concerns over the influence both Russia and China are exerting economically in Europe.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said ahead of the chancellor’s arrival, “Her visit will affirm the deep and enduring bilateral ties between the United States and Germany. This forward-looking visit will address our robust partnership on shared global challenges and identify areas to further strengthen cooperation in the months and years ahead.”
