Kings Bay base suffered injuries and damage.
An EF-2 tornado, spawned by Hurricane Elsa, made landfall and tore through Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in southeast Georgia this past week. The National Weather Service reported sustained winds of nearly 130 miles per hour.
Around 10 people were hospitalized and 20 people were injured. Damage assessments are still ongoing, though no submarines or military equipment were impacted by the storm.
“While the situation here is still very dynamic, I want to thank all of our first responders and Camden County first responders for their quick actions,” said Captain Chester Parks, the base commanding officer. “Their quick response most certainly helped.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Captain Parks as he leads the naval base through recovery efforts.
- For the National Weather Service as they monitor and alert regions of severe weather.
- For healing for service personnel and others who were injured in the tornado.
