Senate had rejected bipartisan independent commission.
On Wednesday in a vote of 222-190, the House of Representatives passed legislation to create a committee focused solely on investigating the January 6 Capitol incident. Previously, the House had passed a bipartisan bill to form an independent panel modeled after the 9/11 Commission, but a filibuster in the Senate effectively ended the creation of a nonpartisan body.
Without a pathway forward in the Senate, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California used her power to establish a select committee in the House, under the control of the majority. The committee will have subpoena power to conduct its investigation and compel testimony.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the people who will make up the select committee investigating what happened on January 6 at the Capitol.
- For Minority Leader McCarthy as an alternate minority party select committee is considered to do its own investigation.
- For the hundreds of people who have been arrested and charged with federal crimes to receive appropriate treatment under the law.
