Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Hebrews 4:16
Take a minute to pause and think about how you tend to approach God. Do you delight in spending time with Him? Or does it feel like a chore sometimes? Do you feel secure and hopeful as you come to Him? Or are you timid, unsure of what God may or may not say or do? Do you believe that God has the power to fix any circumstance?
The author of Hebrews calls believers to come to God with confidence, knowing that there will always be grace and mercy available to help in times of need. As described in Hebrews chapter four, God is both omnipotent, or full of unlimited power, and compassionate. He is more than able to address anything that occurs in this world and He takes care of His children through it all. He does not want His children to be anxious but wants them to bring every request – both large and small – to Him so He can provide help (Philippians 4:6).
This is why you can always approach God with confidence. He offers mercy, which prevents you from receiving what you deserve, and He gives grace, which gives you what you don’t deserve. Pause and allow this truth to sink deep into your heart. Ask God to show you where your confidence in Him may be lacking. Share your needs with Him and trust that He will take care of you. Pray that, just as you grow in your faith and confidence in God, that governing officials in the United States would also grow in their knowledge and confidence in God’s power.
