The Filter

We know that for those who love God all things work together for good.  – Romans 8:28

If you have ever edited snapshots with your phone, you know the filter choices are endless. Newer technologies offer outrageous options ranging from turning your photos into cartoons to making them look like you are underwater. Filters take what is real and offer a perception of something you could previously only imagine.

A picture of today’s world is not pretty. Nations are at war and leaders are beset by pride, equality is elusive, and justice is rare. People are suffering from physical diseases and a soul-killing loss of hope. What filter could possibly make this picture beautiful? Only one.

The Love of God, as described in the Bible is the only treatment for what ails the world. Sacrificial love, made real by the work of Jesus Christ, brings grace where there has been none, rescuing mankind. When you apply His love, sin is forgiven, death is overcome, and people live in righteousness and peace. God’s love takes what is real and transforms it, not only changing the perception, but actually re-creating reality, “He set out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction” (Psalm 107:20).

Your outlook upon the world today may seem bleak, but look at it again through the lens of God’s love. Those trusting in Him will see His grace creating a new reality. Ask God to bless America with people of faith and vision, leading churches and families and specifically the nation’s government into a new picture of hope.

Today’s Verse: Romans 8:28

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

16 On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Fear not, O Zion;
let not your hands grow weak.
17 The LORD your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
18 I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival,
so that you will no longer suffer reproach.
19 Behold, at that time I will deal
with all your oppressors.
And I will save the lame
and gather the outcast,
and I will change their shame into praise
and renown in all the earth.
20 At that time I will bring you in,
at the time when I gather you together;
for I will make you renowned and praised
among all the peoples of the earth,
when I restore your fortunes
before your eyes,” says the LORD.
