Confidence

We who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. – Hebrews 6:18

Psychologists will tell you that confidence is not an innate, fixed human characteristic, but that it is an ability that can be acquired and improved over time. It is a belief – a conviction – that life’s challenges can be met, and success can be had. They will tell you confidence begins with self. Theologians, on the other hand, assert that true confidence comes from God.

Most of the confidence that you have comes from seeing God keep His promises. He has promised never to leave you, and He hasn’t. If you don’t have confidence in His presence, then who moved? A focus on Him provides confidence in the sufficiency of His grace, His mercy and His peace. Confidence comes as well from the assurance that He guides you by the Holy Spirit. He has also given you the confidence of eternity with Him through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

In addition, the Lord wants you to have the confidence that He hears and answers prayers. “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us” (1 John 5:14). That being the case, as you pray today ask that, if it be His will, He would usher in a restoration of Biblical values and a core belief in Him, His Son Jesus, and His teachings in this nation today, from the White House to the Capitol to the Courts.

Today’s Verse: Hebrews 6:18

so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.

13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
