Hackers claim to just want money, not to create problems.
The Colonial Pipeline, which transports nearly half of the East Coast’s fuel supplies, has been hit by one of the most disruptive digital ransom hacking schemes reported and the resulting shutdown has disrupted fuel supplies.
Government and top pipeline officials are working to restore it as lawmakers urge stronger protections for critical American energy infrastructure. The White House has made restarting the fuel network a top priority and organized a federal task force to assess the impact and how to avoid more severe disruptions.
Residents all across the eastern United States have seen isolated sales restrictions at retail pumps, and some benchmark gasoline prices have been pushed to a three-year high.
A statement from the company said that they are working with the U.S. Department of Energy to bring the pipeline operations back online in a phased approach, and in accordance with federal regulations.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For officials working on the pipeline shutdown and hack as they work to safely restore full operations.
- For U.S. government and private sector entities as they develop greater and more effective cybersecurity.
- For the Department of Homeland Security as they seek to protect national security.
