Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. – Matthew 24:44
You probably played the childhood game of Hide and Seek. The producer of a PBS children’s program says it was a “fun way to remind children that people come back, even when they go away for a short time.” Parents do the same thing when they leave children with a babysitter… they are only gone for a little while, and they come back. The child in the game or with the sitter is reassured and across time fear is replaced with confidence.
There are more than 50 passages in the Bible that tell you that Jesus is going to return… whether you are ready or not. It is certain. He told you He would. When the people watched His earthly departure, the angel said He would come back. In Matthew 24, Jesus gives you the signs of His return. Some have already come to pass. Some may be happening in tonight’s news. Some are still to show up. He has also cautioned you to be ready. You do not know when that day will be, but you do know it is coming. And when He comes, you cannot say, “Wait just a second, I’m not ready!”
The twinkling of the eye, the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:52, is the quickness of His appearing. A twinkling is the amount of time it takes light to enter the eye and travel to the retina and be reflected out of the iris. About 1/6 millionth of a second! The time is short. Do you sense the urgency? If you haven’t committed your life to Christ, don’t hesitate. Jesus is coming back, ready or not!
Pray for revival in America. Pray that God will prepare you to do your part. Ask God to make clear His directions to believers in government so that they might be His hands and feet, doing His will in a broken and hurting nation.
Today’s Verse: Matthew 24:44

12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
