Sets September 11 as deadline for end of nation’s longest conflict.
On Wednesday, President Biden announced that he had directed the Defense Department to formally withdraw all American troops from Afganistan. The deadline put in place by the commander-in-chief is September 11, 2021 – 20 years after the U.S. was attacked by terrorists. Currently, 2,500 troops are stationed in the Middle Eastern country.
President Biden made it clear that there was never going to be the perfect time to withdraw American forces. He said, “We cannot continue the cycle of extending or expanding our military presence in Afghanistan hoping to create the ideal conditions for our withdrawal, expecting a different result. I am now the fourth United States president to preside over an American troop presence in Afghanistan. … I will not pass this responsibility to a fifth.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That the president would seek God’s wisdom on military policies and intervention.
- For the Defense Department as the withdrawal of troops is coordinated.
