On Monday afternoon, reports came in of a shooting at a Knoxville, Tennessee, Highschool. The situation is still unfolding and the Knoxville Police Department issued a statement urging residents to avoid the area, “Multiple agencies are on the scene of a shooting at Austin-East Magnet High School.” They added that there are “multiple gunshot victims reported, including a KPD officer. The investigation remains active at this time.”
The situation is still developing, but according to the superintendent of Knox County Schools, Bob Thomas, the school has been secured and students evacuated. The suspected shooter was found dead on the scene. It is not yet clear if there were any fatalities.
The Tennessee Department of Education also issued a statement saying, “As details continue to emerge, our thoughts are with Austin East Magnet High School and those school community members who have been affected by the shooting that took place this afternoon. The department stands ready to support.”
