The prudent sees danger and hides himself. – Proverbs 22:3
Todd Beamer is a name you might remember. He was one of the passengers on Flight 93 that was hijacked on 9/11/2001. That was the flight the passengers forced to crash in a Pennsylvania field before the hijackers could use it to hit their intended target in Washington, D.C. Todd is credited with being the person who said, “Let’s roll,” as passengers attacked the cockpit.
What you might not know about Todd is the kind of Christian he was. Several days after the tragic events of the terror attacks, his wife was going through his belongings that he’d left in his car at the airport. One of the things she found was a packet of Scripture memorization cards in the armrest tray between the front seats. The top card on the stack, the one he would have read on September 11th, was Romans 11:33-36: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”
What a comfort that must have been for the Beamer family. Todd had placed himself firmly in the hands of his loving Lord.
Today’s verse says a prudent person will hide from danger. But what if there is no hiding place? What if you were suddenly faced with an incredible fate? Do not fear. You DO have a place to hide… in the steadfast love and faithfulness of God toward you. Ask the Lord today to protect Christians in America’s halls of government and justice, that they might rely on the only true hiding place: their Heavenly Father.
Today’s Verse: Proverbs 22:3
The prudent sees danger and hides himself,
but the simple go on and suffer for it.
