Delivers remarks on passing of Florida congressman.
On Tuesday, Representative Alcee Hastings passed away at the age of 84, after fighting pancreatic cancer for two years. During his life, he served not only as a Congressman but also as a civil rights lawyer who spent his career fighting segregation and poverty. He was also nominated by President Carter to serve as a federal judge.
In memoriam, President Biden praised the efforts of Representative Hastings saying, “It was a passion he forged as a pioneering civil rights lawyer in the 1960s, fighting tirelessly to desegregate hotels, restaurants, and public spaces in South Florida – a trailblazing spirit to advocate for what is right that guided him throughout his life.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Lord to comfort Representative Hastings’ family.
- That God would give the Florida governor wisdom on the timing of holding the election for the opening created by the loss of Rep. Hastings.
