Increase in qualifying duties for federal education for Guard and Reserve members.
Members of the House of Representatives have introduced legislation to expand the accrual of G.I. Bill benefits for National Guard troops and Reservists. The Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act would clarify and update the types of duty that qualify members for federal education benefits.
“Despite taking on the same risks and doing the same jobs as their active-duty counterparts, these service members don’t have access to the same benefits,” said Representative Mark Takano of California, chair of the House VA Committee.
“The men and women who serve in the Guard and Reserve make incredible sacrifices for our country just like other service members, and they deserve equal benefits for doing similar jobs and facing similar risks,” said Representative Mike Levin of California, chair of the House Veterans Affairs Committee subpanel on economic opportunity.
