They are looking for more regulations on leasing and environmental issues.
A number of bills have been introduced in Congress, led by, among others, Representative Katie Porter of California, the new chair of the House Natural Resources Oversight Committee.
House members are looking to reform federal oil and gas leasing regulations, which would include raising royalty rates and toughen cleanup requirements. The legislation would update decades-old laws governing oil and gas drilling, which lawmakers say would boost the program’s value for taxpayers.
President Biden has already issued a moratorium banning new oil and gas leases on public lands. The new legislation would not deliver on the president’s campaign promises to stop issuing new leases to fight climate change, but could still be applied to existing leaseholders if the new legislation becomes law.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Congressional members as they vote on oil and gas regulations.
- For God to guide the administration and Congress in dealing with America’s energy sectors.
- For U.S. officials striving to steward America’s natural resources and protections for the environment.
