If approved, bill could mark largest changes to voting in decades.
Debate began this week on a new bill introduced by the House of Representatives designed to adjust the nation’s electoral process. Titled “House Resolution 1,” the majority-backed bill is designed to fight partisan gerrymandering, eliminate overly difficult voting restrictions (such as voter ID laws), and limit the influence of money in the process.
Minority members have voiced their concern over the bill, saying that if passed it could interfere with states’ ability to run elections. However, the majority position claims that the existing system is untenable since low-income and minority voters have lower turnout in elections due to current obstacles, resulting in unequal participation in the electoral process.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God’s will to be accomplished through the Congressional process.
- That the legislators would have wisdom in their approach to changes to voting systems.
- That electoral reform legislation would bring about the best result for voters
