The United States focuses on trade and China’s human rights issues .
On Wednesday, President Biden held his first phone call with President Xi Jinping of China. The call comes amid tensions related to trade and the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The White House press secretary stated, “President Biden underscored his fundamental concerns about Beijing’s coercive and unfair economic practices, crackdown in Hong Kong, human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and increasingly assertive actions in the region, including toward Taiwan.”
On the same day, the president’s administration announced a task force on China headed by the Department of Defense to study the U.S. strategy in Asia. Additionally, the White House laid out the plan for the updated relationship with China saying that President Biden is “committed to pursuing practical, results-oriented engagements when it advances the interests of the American people and those of our allies.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to guide President Biden on the way to navigate issues with China.
- That God would help the Defense Department develop the best strategies for peace and freedom.
- For the State Department as U.S. diplomats negotiate with China.
