Christian Draft Horses

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.  – Hebrews 10:24

Draft horses are fascinating creatures that have been utilized throughout history to help humans haul heavy loads. One horse can pull a load of 8,000 pounds on its own. When you yoke two draft horses together, they can actually pull 24,000 pounds, three times the amount they could pull themselves. Even more remarkable is that if these two horses have trained together, they are actually able to pull four times as much weight as they do alone! What an incredible illustration of the power of working together!

Christians weren’t meant to do life alone. Just like draft horses, they can be strong on their own with God, but when you put two or more together, their strength and abilities can multiply. The author of Hebrews knew this fact, which is why he instructed believers to gather together in community and to encourage each other to continue loving and doing good works. Love was not meant to be practiced in solitude. In fact, it is only possible to practice love within a community. Community can be challenging, but this is no excuse for not meeting. The author of Hebrews makes it clear that Christians need one another for regular encouragement, during both good and difficult times.

Who are you more like in your own life right now? Are you like the single horse, working alone, or are you like the pair of horses, able to pull exponentially more together? Ask God to give you wisdom to know how to encourage those around you in their faith. Pray over the nation’s leaders, that they may learn how to act like draft horses, working together to accomplish amazing things for God.

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
