First Latino immigrant to hold key Cabinet post.
Alejandro Mayorkas was confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security on Tuesday. His confirmation came on a 56-43 vote, at a time when Congress is preparing for more differences over immigration policies. Born in Cuba, Mayorkas grew up in Los Angeles.
Senate Majority Leader Schumer said the qualifications of Secretary Mayorkas were “unassailable.” Minority Leader McConnell raised concerns surrounding the secretary’s ethics regarding the use of “the levels of power that control U.S. immigration law.” Mayorkas previously served as DHS deputy secretary in the Obama administration.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Mayorkas to enforce and protect U.S. laws and the Constitution as he heads the Department of Homeland Security.
- For the president’s administration as immigration policies are put into place.
