Federal agencies directed to “buy from all of America.”
On Monday, President Biden signed a new executive order designed to close loopholes in the federal government’s “Buy American” policies. The new rules seek to bring a boost to American manufacturing in the midst of economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the president, “When we buy American, we’ll buy from all of America. That includes communities that have been historically been left out of government procurement.”
Among the changes made by the orders is a new position in the White House’s budget office to manage the directives. The orders also adjusted the percentage of a product that must be made in the United States to be considered made in America. These measures come while the Biden administration is in discussions with Congress to pass another round of direct payments to Americans to recover from COVID-19
