Dustin Higgs becomes 13th death penalty carried out in 6 months by DOJ.
In the final days of the current administration, inmate Dustin Higgs was executed by lethal injection at a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday. He had been granted a temporary stay due to his COVID-19 infection, but higher courts overruled the stay.
Higgs had been convicted of the kidnapping and killing of three women in Washington, D.C. that occurred in 1996. “He received a fair trial and was convicted and sentenced to death by a unanimous jury for a despicable crime,” U.S. District Judge Peter Messitte wrote in his December 29 ruling.
