Jeffrey A. Rosen
Acting Attorney General
Jeffrey Adam Rosen was born in April 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Northwestern University and received his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. He joined a private law practice.
Twenty years later, Rosen began working for the federal government. He was general counsel at the U.S. Department of Transportation and acted as counsel for the Transportation Secretary. He spent three years at the Office of Management and Budget where he was general counsel and senior policy adviser. At the end of the George W. Bush Administration, Rosen returned to private practice.
In May 2017, Rosen was confirmed as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation, where he served under Secretary Elaine Chao. In February 2019, President Trump nominated Rosen for the position of U.S. Deputy Attorney General. He was confirmed by the Senate by a 52-45 vote and sworn in in May 2019. In December 2020, it was announced that Rosen would become Acting Attorney General on December 24.

Regarding the infiltration of the U.S. Capitol Building last week, Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen issued the following statement:
“The violence at our Nation’s Capitol Building is an intolerable attack on a fundamental institution of our democracy. From the outset, the Department of Justice has been working in close coordination with the Capitol Police and federal partners from the Interior Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Guard, as well as the Metropolitan Police and other local authorities. … the Department of Justice sent hundreds of federal law enforcement officers and agents from the FBI, ATF, and the U.S. Marshals Service to assist the Capitol Police in addressing this unacceptable situation, and we intend to enforce the laws of our land.”
