The Depth of God

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! – Romans 11:33

Perhaps you’ve heard some people question the supremacy of God. They ask questions like “Do you ever wonder if God gets stumped? Does He ever have to change His plan because of something humans did or did not do? Does He really know enough to handle any situation that may arise?”

The words of the Apostle Paul to the people at the church in Rome can shed some light on these difficult questions. As a prominent early church leader and with his extensive traditional Jewish education, Paul was obviously very knowledgeable about God. In Romans chapter 11, he was speaking on the restoration of both the Jews and Gentiles of Israel. Paul spent the majority of this chapter discussing God’s plan of grace and His remaining love and calling for Israel. After recounting the history of God’s plan thus far, Paul had to stop. He found himself at a loss for words. Seeing the incredible depth of God’s plan, Paul was led to praise God. He knew better than most about the mysteries of God. And yet, he couldn’t help but marvel at the riches and depth of God’s knowledge and wisdom. From him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen (Romans 11:36).

Take time to pause and reflect on all that you have witnessed God do through your life. Remember all of the seemingly impossible situations He has brought you through. Make Paul’s words of praise in Romans 11 your own today. Trust that there is nothing that can ever stump God. Ask Him to use His vast knowledge and wisdom to guide the nation’s leaders through difficult circumstances.

Today’s Verse: Romans 11:33

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
