Worth the Wait

According to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. – 2 Peter 3:13

How well do you wait? According to recent computer science research, most people will give a video about 2 seconds to load, at 5 seconds 25% of them abandon the process, and at 10 seconds 50%, are permanently gone!

In the Bible, many times the apostle Peter’s behavior is characterized as impulsive—he didn’t like to wait! Specifically, he didn’t like to wait and discover Jesus’ perspective on a situation before acting. How ironic that he would be the one, after Christ’s death, to write multiple letters encouraging believers to be patient in waiting for God’s promises to come to pass!

Are you anxious for this new year to get underway, for an easier era to arrive? Peter puts God’s timing into perspective for you. “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

God’s plan, for the world, for America, and for you, is right on track. His beautiful Kingdom is on its way and He doesn’t want anyone to miss it. Pray for those considering Christ today to accept His invitation into relationship. As you pray, ask that elected leaders in America will seek God’s wisdom, consulting Him and waiting for His guidance in establishing the next administration. A new day will come, here on Earth and an eternal one in Heaven.  Through faith in Christ Jesus, both will be worth the wait.

Today’s Verse: 2 Peter 3:13

But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
    to the soul who seeks him.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord.
