First U.S. case breaks ground while U.K. quarantines.
Scientists identified a new coronavirus variant in England several weeks ago, causing their infection rates to skyrocket and resulting in another lockdown. The variant appears to be more contagious than COVID-19. On Tuesday, the first U.S. case of the variant occurred in Colorado. The second case was confirmed 24 hours later in Southern California.
Experts are unsure how the virus traveled from Britain to the United States, but now that it’s here, they are positive that it has already begun spreading. The man infected in Colorado was a National Guardsman who was helping out at a nursing home dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak.
