HHS assistant secretary reinforces that schools are a low risk for infection.
On Sunday, Admiral Brett Giroir spoke about the need for parents to send children back to school, regardless of whether they have been immunized or not.
“I think it’s very important for listeners to understand that getting children back to school right now is safe now,” Admiral Giroir urged. “There’s data upon data upon data that children could go back to school safely in person.”
Citing a CDC report that showed schools as low-risk for infection, the HHS assistant secretary stated, “It is safe and very important to get children back in school, even before they are vaccinated.”
HHS Secretary Alex Azar issued a statement on Monday regarding the president’s recent executive order on children’s education, saying “During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump Administration has made it a top priority to support safe access to in-person education for American children. … We know that in-person learning is essential to children’s flourishing, especially for vulnerable children, and that it can be done safely. We can defeat this pandemic and support healthy futures for our children at the same time.”
