Behold, something greater than Solomon is here. – Matthew 12:42
Relationships can be complicated! When Jesus was walking the Earth, He had real relationships, and like yours, some of them were very challenging. The religious leaders of His day were perplexed by Him. While He was a master of their scriptures, (what we call the Old Testament,) Jesus DID things that didn’t conform to their religious traditions, particularly the ones used to evaluate one another for exaltation. The Pharisee’s continually asked Jesus to PROVE Himself by performing miraculous signs.
One day in an exchange with the proud leaders, they again requested a “miracle on demand.” In response, Jesus interestingly gave them a Jewish history lesson. He reminded them of the time when the Gentile Queen of Sheba traveled across the globe to hear the wisdom entrusted to the celebrated Jewish King, Solomon.
The Pharisees knew God’s Messiah would be wiser than Solomon, and when Jesus told them plainly, referring to Himself, “something greater than Solomon is here,” there was no doubt the miracle He was offering them was a bold claim to be their awaited Messiah.
Today, finding the truth seems complicated and many are seeking a sign from God. The answer to that desire is the same as it has always been. Pray for America as a nation not to forget the Christian heritage that has brought it to greatness. Ask that many in the coming administration of leadership will personally seek out God’s wisdom, finding it as always in the miracle of Jesus Christ, humble Savior King.
Today’s Verse: Matthew 12:42
The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” 13 And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good.
