Be quick to follow the Lord.
1 Corinthians 14:33 – For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.
How do you get to the corner of Fifth Street and Oak in Indianapolis without the aid of GPS? For starters, you cannot possibly give meaningful directions unless you know the starting from. If you are at Elm and Sixth, it could be mere blocks away; but if you are in Seattle or Miami, your directions would include various interstates and state borders. With respect to our lives, few people have a clear idea of where they really are. Life doesn’t have clear road signs and there is no GPS to navigate the day-to-day issues you face.
Yet God knows where He wants you to be and He has devised a clear map on how to get you there. Unfortunately, even when lost and disoriented, we are often quick to argue with the Lord about where we are and where we think He’s leading. We are slow to acknowledge how lost we are or our desperate need for His leadership in life’s journey. We are so easily confused. It is no wonder because the times we are living in are confusing times. Even the messages coming from churches can be inconsistent. Sometimes what’s preached on Sunday is even heretical. Your news and social media is filled with wartime rhetoric, ”If one person or the other is inaugurated in January, there will be a civil war in America.” Nations are coming against one another in “proxy” wars involving terrorism or civil unrest. Locusts across Africa caused famines. There have been massive earthquakes, volcanos, hurricanes, wildfires. The coronavirus pandemic has gripped the gloabe and there are reports of threats against religious freedom. This all sounds straight out of Matthew 24, doesn’t it?
To escape the perils of such confusion, be on the watch. Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and others as you love yourself. He knows your starting point. He knows where you need to go. He knows how to get you there. Be ready to follow Him in faith wherever He leads you. Confusion will disappear and peace will reign in our hearts.
Pray With Us
Loving Father, You are so good. Thank You for the many things in my life You have already brought me safely through. I acknowledge to You that I am confused about so much that is happening in the world today, and because I am confused, I am frightened. I know that when I hold on tightly to You and follow Your leading, fear dissipates and I am at peace. Help me keep myself focused on You and on the day of Christ’s return. Hide me in the shelter of Your love in the coming days, for I ask it in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
- Pray and let God know if you are feeling confused or fearful.
- Ask for the reassurance of His presence with you.
- Pray that God will strengthen your trust in His leading and the path He has created for you.
- Praise Him for his faithfulness to you in prior times of testing or distress.
- Pray “Maranatha,” or “Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus.”
