Vaccine distribution will begin within days.
President Trump and Vice President Pence hosted an “Operation Warp Speed” summit at the White House Tuesday. Among those attending were public health experts, business leaders, and state legislators, as lawmakers and pharmaceutical companies prepare for the rollout of a coronavirus vaccine.
The president touted the administration’s efforts to clear bureaucratic hurdles and speed the development of a vaccine working together with the private sector.
He said he expected approval of the first U.S. vaccines within days. “They say somewhat of a miracle and I think that’s true,” he said. “Every American who wants the vaccine will be able to get the vaccine and we think by spring we’re going to be in a position nobody would have believed possible just a few months ago.”
The president said he would invoke the Defense Production Act to ensure Americans are first in line for domestically produced coronavirus vaccines, although he did not think it would be necessary. However, he used the summit to sign an executive order in which the Secretary of Health and Human Services is directed to ensure that Americans have priority access to the vaccine.
He also said he and his aides hope the skepticism among some Americans about the vaccine would be tamped down as he spoke confidently about the vaccine.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For all those who will be responsible for the distribution and delivery of the vaccine to the American public.
- For the Food and Drug Administration as the efficacy of the coronavirus vaccine is being authorized.
- For the president and the White House Coronavirus Task Force as they continue to fight to end the pandemic.
