Allows transparency regarding education funding alloted under COVID-19 legislation.
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently announced the launch of a portal that shows the utilization rate of billions allotted by the Coronavirs Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to state and local educational agencies and higher education entities. The money in the Education Stabilization Fund of the CARES Act was intended to support students’ learning during the pandemic.
“The CARES Act was passed to provide schools the resources they needed to protect students and teachers and ensure learning continues,” Secretary DeVos said. “We awarded the CARES Act money quickly. This portal now provides transparency into what happened next. States that neglected their obligations to provide full-time education, while complaining about a lack of resources, have left significant sums of money sitting in the bank. There may be valid reasons for states to be deliberate in how they spend CARES Act resources, but these data make clear there is little to support their claims of being cash-poor.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary DeVos as she leads her department.
- That states and municipalities would use the funds allotted for the good of students.
- For students whose educations have suffered during the pandemic.
