Your Work Matters

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. – Proverbs 16:3

Work is seen by some as a four-letter word.  But, from the beginning of mankind’s creation, work has been a fundamental part of maturity. Adam’s job in the Garden was to “tend and keep” it, to cultivate and guard it. Cultivation is work done actively, keeping might be more passive, but it is still work. What was true in the physical world is also true in your spiritual life.

The overall purpose of work is to have an impact… on nature and on the culture. When you do your work, do it “as unto the Lord.” How do you do that? Here are some helpful strategies courtesy of Josh Kilen, Christian writer, author, and marketing consultant. View work as an expression of love, as part of loving your neighbor as you do yourself. Look for the positives in what you do. Exceed the expectations of others. Smile. Be sincere and work with integrity.

Above all, your mission in Christ Jesus is to work for His Kingdom. John 9:4 says, “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” Jesus wants you to stay focused and not to succumb to the distractions sent by Satan. Time is a dominion of God. You cannot buy it, merit it, or trade for it. It is a gift from God, valuable, gracious, and holy. God gives it to You according to His will for you. And it ever marches on. So, the work of the Lord is urgent.

Prayerfully consider the work God would have you do. Then commit your activities to Him. He will direct your path and confirm to you that the work you are engaged in is His work. The people of the world need encouragement; your leaders in Washington need to know you are praying for them; be ready to engage them. God alone has the hope they need through the cross of Jesus. Keep praying!

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
