Kevin McCarthy
U.S. Representative for California
Kevin Owen McCarthy was born in January 1965 in Bakersfield, California. He is a fourth-generation resident of Kern County. At age 19, he opened his first business, a delicatessen, after winning five thousand dollars with a lottery ticket. He subsequently sold the deli to attend California State University, Bakersfield, where he earned an undergraduate degree in marketing and an MBA.
McCarthy entered into politics winning his first election as a Kern Community College District trustee. He went on to be elected to the California State Assembly, becoming his party’s floor leader during his freshmen term. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2006.
McCarthy and his wife Judy have two children. He is a Baptist.

“Through the work of the China Task Force, we put forward a comprehensive blueprint that will be critical in curbing China’s dangerous behavior and securing America’s prominence on the world stage,” Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a press release.
“Today marks another milestone in our efforts to hold China accountable—the introduction of the China Task Force Act will help us implement the recommendations of the report, which will help make our country safer and more self-sufficient. Through our actions and priorities, [we] continue to act on our Commitment to America agenda to rebuild the greatest economy in a generation.”
He added, “Making America more secure and more prosperous should not be a political issue. Every member in this chamber regardless of political party, should want to take a stand against China’s malign behavior and their violations of human rights. With the China Task Force Act, there will be an opportunity to go on the record to support realistic and meaningful solutions.” The California representative called on his colleagues to unite “in holding the CCP accountable” and said inaction is no longer an option.
