Trust in the sovereignty of God.
1 Corinthians 2:9 – What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.
Are you finding yourself living in a world that is becoming more hostile to matters of faith? Is the First Amendment in the Constitution, first in the Bill of Rights, in danger of losing the portion that allows for religious liberty in America? Many would say yes. So, don’t be surprised at the response of the “world of anything goes” when you stand up for Jesus and live out your Christian convictions…especially as you vote this year.
Many sermons have been preached over today’s verse that relate it to that time in the future when believers join with Christ in glory. But look at the context. Paul is telling the Corinthian believers—whose world was also hostile to the things of the Lord—of the power of the Holy Spirit. “So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. Yet among the nature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. … These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God…that we might understand the things freely given us by God.” You can apply this passage to knowledge, understanding, and wisdom that is available to you TODAY because God has gifted it to you through His Holy Spirit. Grab hold. Live boldly. He knows what is ahead, immediately and into the far future. Keep your eyes on Him.
Pray With Us
Holy God, I confess that it is easy to be anxious about what is ahead for this nation after the election. Pundits and news anchors forecast all manner of things that could befall America. But YOU, Lord, are still sovereign. You are in full control. Through Your Holy Spirit, You have given us a spirit not of fear but of courage and a sound mind, and an understanding that the world doesn’t have. Keep my eyes fixed on You, and through all of it, O God, be glorified,
Amen.
