Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. – 2 Peter 1:20
Believers have a great advantage! By putting their trust in the Bible, God’s written word, they get a glimpse into the future. The book of Revelation, parts of Daniel and Matthew, and other Scripture are filled with promises and warnings. Also, the over three-hundred prophecies concerning the Messiah which Christ has fulfilled reassures believers in their faith.
The Scripture is not only good for looking back to the past and forward to the future but to build your life on its truths in the present. The apostle Paul writes to Timothy, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Jesus cites another reason for prophecy, “And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe” (John 14:29). As today’s technologies and events increasingly align with prophetic Scripture, the faith of believers is strengthened.
Today’s verse says prophecy is not given by man’s interpretation but the prophet “spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” As you read the Bible, build your life on His promises, warnings, and commands. Maintain hope that this life is a mere blip on the screen compared to hope in eternal life promised through Jesus. Pray for the citizens and leaders of this nation to turn toward Him and His promises in these difficult times.

4 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
