Azerbaijan and Armenia continue in violent clashes.
The nations of Azerbaijan and Armenia are currently engaged in violent conflicts over control of the Nagorno-Karabakh region which is currently within Azerbaijan’s borders but is controlled by a group of ethnic Armenians backed by Armenia.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will host the foreign ministers of those two nations in separate meetings later this week, one after the other. It is unclear whether the two foreign ministers will speak with one another or if the secretary will host a third meeting to include both of them.
Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the U.S. said the two foreign ministers could meet during their time in Washington and that his country hopes that the two can have “a substantive conversation” at some point soon. The Armenian ambassador to the U.S. said that Secretary Pompeo deserves praise for calling out Turkey for backing Azerbaijan in the conflict.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Pompeo as he attempts to negotiate a resolution to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
- That Turkey and other nations in the region would refrain from entering into the conflict and that all would seek peace.
