Romans 8:26 – Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Many Americans have been left speechless in the wake of facing a global pandemic that even 6 months ago seemed fairly far-fetched. Others have taken it upon themselves to talk about every aspect of COVID that they can to try to better understand this new disease. It almost feels as though reports are changing on a daily basis regarding what experts know about the virus – how can you even know what to pray for anymore?
Is this virus having an inherently negative effect on your community? Will there be good to come out of it? Do you pray for healing? Do you pray for wisdom? Do you pray for another shutdown to gain better control of COVID? Is it even ok to pray that things could go back to the “normal” you knew before COVID hit America?
In this moment of confusion, pause and take a deep breath. Give your heart up to God. Talk to Him about all of your confusion and questions. And know that the Holy Spirit, which is inside of you, is also interceding on your behalf. You may not know the right words to say – you may not have any words – and you don’t have to. Prayer is not limited to your human knowledge and understanding. Open your heart to the Holy Spirit and He will search your heart, guiding your prayer according to the will of the Father.
Pray With Us
Father God, this is such a confusing, difficult time. I don’t always know what I should be praying for. Today I invite Your Spirit to search my heart and guide my prayer. Holy Spirit, help me know what I should pray for. Step in on my behalf and speak where I do not have the words. God, thank You that You know my heart. Thank You that I don’t always have to come to You with all the right words. Ultimately, let Your will be done.
Amen.
