President Donald Trump is staying at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, today. The president tested positive for COVID-19 late on Thursday and quarantined at the White House on Friday. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that moving to the naval hospital was done “out of an abundance of caution”. She added that, “at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days.”
Before boarding Marine One at the White House, the president made a special announcement saying, “I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support. I’m going to Walter Reed hospital. I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure that things work out. The first lady is doing very well. So thank you very much, I appreciate it. I will never forget it. Thank you.”
Vice President Mike Pence tested negative for the virus on Friday and will continue to get daily tests. The Vice president’s physician Dr. Jesse T. Schonau said, “Under the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control, the Vice President is not considered a close contact with any individuals who have tested positive for COVID, including President Donald J. Trump.” He added, “Vice President Mike Pence remains in good health and is free to go about his normal activities.”
