Department hopes to spur private investment in water projects.
The Department of the Interior announced last week that it would be transferring the ownership of Federal Water Projects in Utah to local owners. This action comes as a result of a law passed last year that expedited the title transfer process for certain federal works projects including dams, canals, and other water facilities.
Secretary Bernhardt stated, “These title transfers fulfill the Trump Administration’s goals to streamline bureaucratic processes, empower local ownership, and facilitate infrastructure investment from non-federal sources. Transferring these facilities into local ownership also saves American taxpayer dollars due to decreased federal operating costs and reduced liability.”
