Thousands commemorate the 1963 March on Washington.
Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic “I Have A Dream” speech happened 57 years ago on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Thousands gathered at that very spot on Friday to commemorate that march and push its legacy into the future, greatly outpacing the lighter numbers than were originally anticipated due to the pandemic.
Satellite gatherings were planned in multiple states to reduce travel, and organizers were careful to encourage protocol typical of pandemic culture. Masks were required, temperatures were taken, and hand sanitizer was readily available. Marchers hope that celebrating the historic event would highlight current issues of race and police brutality.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the U.S. Senate as they consider the issues marchers bring to their attention.
- That the Lord would grant safety to those who choose to participate in such rallies.
- For President Trump as he seeks find solutions to divisive problems the nation faces.
