Today, President Donald Trump will meet with medical professionals at the White House regarding the ongoing effort to combat COVID-19. The meeting will cover a variety of issues including how the nation responds to new cases, methods for slowing the spread, treatment options for hospitals, vaccine research, and the reopening of schools.
On Tuesday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated their COVID-19 testing policies regarding hospitals and nursing home staff. Previously, as tests were limited in quantity, it was recommended that nursing home staff be tested, but not required. “While we’ve had good compliance across the country, we want to make sure every single nursing home is doing this,” said CMS Administrator Seema Verma, adding, “The reason why we’re moving to a requirement is to make sure that we have that consistency across the country to keep every single nursing home resident safe.” Additionally, hospitals will be required to report daily metrics regarding confirmed or suspected cases in order for administration officials to properly allocate resources.
