Seek the Lord while He may be found.
Amos 8:11 – “Behold the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst of water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.”
The people of Amos’s day were guilty of substantial sins against the Lord. God sent Amos with a heavy-handed warning. A time would come when He would withhold His Word—purposefully.
Could the warnings to Amos be a warning to believers today? You see a culture falling apart, people rejecting the truth of God, actions undertaken with no thought of consequence, and, among some, no witness to the things of God. You know that God is a God of second chances…and third, and fourth, and more. But does His patience have its limit. It is still safe to presume that God will always extend opportunities, even when they are flatly rejected.
Having the Word of God in our hands is a privilege, not a right. Many abuse its message. Individuals in places of authority discredit it or take their own wisdom’s scissors to eliminate what they don’t like.
Yes, there is a famine for hearing the words of the Lord today. It has often been said that you might be the only Bible someone reads. You might be the only place someone is fed the Word of God to stave off their forever spiritual starvation. Don’t hoard His Word to yourself but be ready always to tell others of the hope you have in Jesus Christ.
Pray With Us
Holy God, Your Word is so precious to me. It sustains my life and gives me blessing. But I do see around me the evidence that what You have to say is unknown to many, and even more reject the notion that Your Word has any relevance today. Help me to be a shining witness for You. I ask it in Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
